Starting next week, I’ll be launching a new season of Geek A Week. This time around, I will be chatting with some of the most colorful, exciting names in the video game world. New interviews, new trading cards with brand new art (by me) and cardbacks written by musical comedy duo, Paul and Storm. It’s a whole new breed of Geek. The set is called “Geek A Week: Legends of VideoGames” with new cards every Tuesday.

Need 1 line to let you know just how dominant this game series is in the video game universe? The Call of Duty franchise is less than 10 years old yet it is the majority of the way to having 100 million total units sold across all video game consoles. Just imagine what a CoD game might look like for the NES console. We did, and now you can own it!

This image may not look like much but it represents a very important principle in character design for First Person Shooters. The 50 yard read.

A key component of our multiplayer character design was that you needed to be able to instantly identify the threat of an opponent from 50 yards away. the silhouette and gear placement on each class was key to achieving this.

A detail that I fully appreciate when playing, especially when I’m sprinting full speed around the hedges on Wasteland. The ability to easily identify a silhouette of a sniper compared to an assault class shapes my entire tactic and route.

This concept was used during the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 while discussing the direction of our multiplayer character design.
